50 years of research, writing, and my paintings reflect my love for my home, where I grew up. My ancestors are of the Native American Karuk Tribe as well as the pioneers of the Gold Rush era in the Klamath River canyon near a place called Happy Camp in Northern California.
This website is dedicated to those who went before me, leaving me with a fascination for the times in which they lived.
My genealogy study has brought about further interest in my own family and gave me an appreciation for the struggles of the pioneers but also feeling the devastation that was pushed onto the Karuk Tribe when Gold Miners took over their native lands.
My writing began in the 1950's for area newspapers as well as the Siskiyou Historical Society. Three of their publications carry my articles, of which I was co-editor of two of their publications featuring the Klamath River area peoples and landmarks.
Becoming a writer for this mid Klamath River area gave me access to old timers "of the river" and my interviews with these peoples form the basis for historical articles as well as subjects for most of my paintings.
Growing up in this area with a love of camping
and
backpacking in the mountains near home, my other hobby in photography,
gave me a collection of beautiful photos taken while enjoying the area.
These are also favorite subjects for landscapes in oil and colored
pencils.
My motor home has become a studio in remote mountain campgrounds
